We invite residents of Clinton and Essex Counties, New York to e-mail your gardening questions to our Ask A Master Gardener program.

If you're not a resident of Clinton or Essex counties, please contact your local Cooperative Extension office. You can find a list of New York State Extension offices here.

Here are some things to keep in mind so that we may serve you better:

  • We are not an emergency service! If you have a potentially dangerous situation, don't wait to take action. We try to be timely with our replies, but this is a volunteer service. We don't check the email every day, and some questions take some time to research and answer. You can also call our office (see phone numbers at the bottom of this page.)
  • Provide as much detail as possible. - Tell us where you are located. Describe your problem in detail. If it's a pest problem, for example, tell us about the plant it's infesting, what the pest looks like, and what the damage looks like. Often times, information about the site (sunny, shady, etc.) and soil (poorly drained, dry, etc.) and other details can provide clues.
  • Send us a picture. - Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. If you have a digital camera, take a picture and attach the image file to your email. (Still provide other details that can help us answer your question.)
